In the UK

  • The Home Office estimates that there are 13,000 in slavery in the country at any given time.
  • 2,340 potential victims were referred in 2014; a 34% increase on 2013.
  • Potential victims were reported to be from 96 different countries of origin.
  • The most common countries were Albania, Nigeria, Vietnam, Romania, Slovakia, China, Poland and the UK.
  • In 2013, 58% of those rescued were aged 18-20, and 20% were under 18.
